Presidents’ Address to Umu MbieriPresidents’ Address to Umu Mbieri

Greetings my people! As you may recall, I wrote to you two weeks after I was elected the President of Mbieri Nwaotuoke USA in Oakland California in July 2010. Then, I promised you will be hearing from me soon and quite often about Mbieri affairs.

I’m delighted to write to you again at a time I believe is momentous for all of our people at home and abroad. We have just witnessed a successful general election in Nigeria that the rest of the world saw as the best in modern African experience. At the state level, that election was a victory for the people of Imo State and for Mbieri in particular. Because our peoples’ vote mattered, the election did put Mbieri and Mbaitoli Local Government Area on the world stage. People who didn’t know about us in Nigeria are now learning who we are. Following, Mbieri people declared May 27, 2011 as fasting and prayer day for the new Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha and his Chief of Staff, Prince Eze Duruiheoma who is nwa Mbieri. I am happy to inform you that Mbieri Nwaotuoke USA (MNUSA), your National Organization, in collaboration with our leadership in Mbieri, also sent a message of congratulation to Governor Okorocha on your behalf. We prayed that God grant the new governor and his administration the strength and wisdom to rightly serve the people of our great State.

I received word few days ago that the government has started work on the roads leading to Mbieri. This is really, good news to celebrate. However, while we remain optimistic about the government, our future lies in our hands. Therefore, we must carry on with the business of transforming our community. To accomplish this, and this is the central point of my message, we need all hands on deck. Point blank, I am soliciting for your ideas, your talents, and your resources. First, let me briefly outline what we have been doing in the past one year since my administration took over the leadership of our national organization.

- On behalf of the National Executive Council and the National Advisory Board of Mbieri Nwaotuoke USA Inc., it is with great joy that I welcome all of you to this 2008 Mbieri National Convention in Dallas, Texas, on July 5, 2008.

As the theme of this bi-annual convention “Modernization of Mbieri Community Hospital” indicates, our primary objective is to promote, advocate and facilitate a unified collective vision for the economic development of Mbieri and the enhancement of the lives of all Mbieri people. Our organization has demonstrated unflinching commitment to our guiding principle to coordinate and harness the collective efforts and resources of Umu Mbieri in the USA, and elsewhere in the Diaspora, in order to address the problems facing our people in Mbieri.

Let me seize this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to all our Mbieri people for the wonderful opportunity that I have thoroughly cherished to serve our people. I am sincerely grateful to all the members of the National Executive Council and the National Advisory Board of our national organization for their sustained focus and dedication to the service of Mbieri. I salute all of you. The collective, impeccable and unequivocal support that we have received has been a tremendous source of energy and satisfaction in serving our Mbieri people.

Through your financial support, we installed the 60-KVA electric power generator at the Mbieri Hospital in 2005. Since 2006, we have successfully constructed over two-thirds of a six-foot-high concrete wall around the hospital, and installed a borehole water supply system, with high-capacity overhead tanks at the hospital. As you read this message, I can confirm that we now have active pipe-borne water supply inside and outside the hospital buildings. In January 2007, we successfully convened the “2007 Mbieri Forum” of all Mbieri stakeholders at Orie-Mbieri – the first ever post civil war Mbieri town-hall meeting!

At this 6th Mbieri National Convention in the great city of Dallas, Texas, let us continue to dedicate ourselves to our collective vision, shared sacrifice, and unwavering commitment. Let our hospital and healthcare objectives remain our project centerpiece for building a permanent infrastructure for the sustained economic development of Mbieri. However, we still have a lot to do. We must take all necessary actions to conserve and sustain any accomplishments. We must guard against negative trends that threaten to unravel the fabric of our Mbieri community such as the potentially-severe impact of oil prospecting in Mbieri and the rapid urbanization and urban encroachment on our Mbieri villages.

As we elect a new administration to continue our service to Mbieri during this 2008 convention in Dallas TX, I humbly pray that that our Almighty God grant the new leaders such strength, courage, and wisdom to lead us in rededicating ourselves to our shared vision, to forging on with our laudable, charitable projects, and to sustaining the economic, physical and sociological health of our Mbieri family. Please continue to extend your unflinching loyalty, trust and support to all Umu Mbieri through our national organization. Remember, there is Strength in Unity! Ogu ofo na ofo asato!

Ka Udo diri Umu Mbieri!

- A Speech Presented At The Mbieri, Conference 2007 Sponsored By Mbieiri Nwatuoke USA Inc. Holding on January, 1st and 2nd 2007 At The Mbieri Renaissance Club, Mbieri.

POLITICAL AGENDA FOR MBIERI

Mbieri, the most populous and commercial town in Mbaitoli LGA and traditionally referred to as Mbieri NWAOTUOKE- a reference to the common paternity of the 28 sons of Mbieri (Mbaeri) and alternately referred to as Mbieri ogu-ofo-na-ofo-asato connoting the sacred reference to the legendary origin of the town that in admired and envied by neighbours but still has a long way to go to attain the lofty idea of our fore-fathers.

Throug migrations and voluntary and sometime coaxed merging, the number of villages dwindled to the present 18 villages which had Mbieri divided politically into two main groups, Ezinihite and Amaike groups. Under Ezinihite group we have;

- “Political Agenda For Mbieri”. Being Text of an Address presented at the Mbieri  Conference 2007 By High Chief Sir Francis Ozuzu Bsc, ksc

 I salute you all and wish you all happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. I thank you all for the opportunity given to me to address you on this all-important topic of producing a political agenda for Mbieri.

 Politics, I define as the power to allocate scarce resources amongst contending and alternatives uses. Though there is within the intellectual community an argument whether it is political determinism or economic determinism or economics determines political direction while the other contending that political considerations affect economic decisions. This argument, I better leave for the eggheads in our universities. For the purposes of this discussion, my definition of politics as the power to determine the allocation or to be at the center stage were economic decisions are being taken and executed, would suffice You may wish to note that within the context of Nigeria, such decisions are being made at 3 levels or tiers of government; the Federal, the State and the Local Government.

- A paper presented at the "Mbieri Conference 2007", held at the Mbieri Renaissance Club Hall, Mbieri; January 1st and 2nd 2007.

I am called upon to discuss the topic, “Political Agenda for Mbieri”. I accepted and that is why I am here. It is not just that I am here, I have already started to discuss the topic. I am convinced that every true son, daughter or wife of Mbieri a who has attained some political maturity have some idea about what should be the political agenda for Mbieri today. Since I am selected and given the task to lead the discussion, I have to start somewhere and somewhere. My duty is to provoke thought among you.
